Director of Operations
Barb has spent her career in management positions for hospitals across the country as well as a specialty pharmacy company. She served as Senior Vice President for Accredo Health, Inc. (Memphis, TN), where she was the senior officer responsible for partnership operations, partnership development, strategic planning, human resources, corporate purchasing and property management, and community foundation. She was responsible for four partnerships totaling $85 million in net operating revenue annually. Her other corporate responsibilities included facility management across the country including renovations and construction projects, saving in excess of $1.2 million in lease expenses in her first year in this position. She was responsible for human resources with over 2,000 employees and over 40 locations. She also implemented the first corporate-wide contracts to manage corporate purchasing, resulting in annual savings exceeding $2 million.
As Chief Executive Officer for Bon Secours-Holy Family Regional Health System (Altoona, PA), Barb was the recognized leader with a $166 million annual operating budget for a 180 bed, acute care facility with gero-psychiatric, rehabilitative, and skilled care units. She led a turnaround from a $2.1 million operating deficit to a $1.1 million operating income in a highly competitive market, increased market share by 25% by developing improved medical-staff relations and new managed care contracts and increased EBIDTDA over 50% through growth and cost management.
Her other work experiences included: serving as Senior Manger for the Consulting Division of Child Health Corporation of America (Shawnee Mission, KS); Executive Director for Children’s Healthcare Services, Inc. and Director, Children’s Health Network, Inc., both part of Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Little Rock, AR; Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (Norfolk, VA), a 186 bed regional pediatric hospital with 1,700 employees and a professional staff of 500 physicians; President of Spectrum Unlimited, Inc. (Norfolk, VA), a for-profit alternative site company; Vice President, Planning and Business Development, Children’s Hospital National Medical Center (Washington, D.C.); Director, Corporate Development, Bon Secours Health System (Columbia, MD), which included acquisition analyses of nursing homes, retirement center/elderly care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, primary care centers, alternative delivery systems strategies and physician practices; Acting President, Alliance Health Services Corporation (now Sentara Health System) (Norfolk, VA); and Assistant Administrator, Chesapeake General Hospital (Chesapeake, VA).
